Devil’s Advocate

I have just seconds ago sent The Secret Diary to receive a much needed assessment. This will give it the guidance I require to see it through to final completion. It will also affect the direction that furture stories under this series takes. The word count for it stands at 46355, which is still a bit off the mark, but I’m happy nonetheless.

With The Secret Diary on its way I can now turn to the planning and writing of the next book, Devil’s Advocate. I’m quite excited about this one as it sees characters previously introduced coming into their own and there’s one I’m champing at the bit to write about. She’ll take a fair bit of research but I know it’ll be a fun and quite rewarding process.

So I’ll whip out my trusty exercise book – I’ve got a new green one – and start on the journey that will hopefully see another manuscript finished in the coming months. I’m going to start with an outline and make sure the story line is sound. I’ll then begin on my spreadsheet with the list of events. I might even spoil myself with a passage of writing or two.

Even though The Secret Diary is far from finished I feel confident to start the next one as it’ll be either complete rewrite or just a tidy up when it returns and I don’t want my keyboard to cool just yet.

  1. That’s fantastic. You’re really getting somewhere. It’s great you’re still excited about it. I’m still excited about mine but life has popped in the way a little for now. As of this weekend I’ll be free to start writing again.

  2. Bring on the weekend! And I hope there’s plenty of blog posts to give updates on your progress.

I’ve looked forward to writing the second book since I came up with the original idea, so it was probably enough motivation to see me through getting the first manuscript written. And I’m amazed that the enthusiasm hasn’t waned. I’m really enjoying the stories, which helps, but I’m also delving into issues that are of interest. It’s almost as though this was the series I was meant to write.

‘Biggest Critic/Biggest Fan’ agrees! :D Get on with the changes but write the next one soooooooooon please. :D Can’t wait to see what happens next!

  4. :D

I was going to let The Secret Diary marinade for a while, but I guess that’s not going to happen since my ‘Biggest Critic/Biggest Fan’ also happens to be the ‘Biggest Nagger’. :P

I guess I’ll have to take up Karen’s suggestion of plan one while writing the other.

  5. Well done. You’re going great guns and thank heavens your “Biggest Critic/Biggest Fan” is nagging you too. Think yourself lucky as it could be quite different.

Best of luck with the assessment. I look forward to reading about the results.

Like Scribblar, life is blocking me from writing right now, but as from 20 April that will change big time. I’ll have lots of time to write while travelling and I intend to use that time wisely.

  6. I totally understand about inability to write. When my computer was in pieces for a couple of weeks I was so restless. I did manage to calm myself with a few longhand passages but there’s nothing like racing through your work on a computer.

Travelling time is a great time to get your work done. It’s pretty much interruption free time.:)
